The Belmont Mansion and its surrounding estate was completed in 1853. This Italianate-style villa was one of the most elaborately furnished and landscaped homes in Tennessee, complete with 36 rooms and 10, 900 square feet of living quarters. The estate also contained an art gallery, conservatories, lavish gardens, a lake, and a zoo. Today the Mansion and its grounds are surrounded by the Belmont University Campus.
